I know Mondays are always cranky, sad days, but do not fret! Let’s turn around that mentality into the start of a new week and new interests, such as this post! Lo and behold, I’ve decided to expand my blog to write about a topic that everyone loves: FOOD! This new section will be called SWC Eats and in here, you can expect some of my favorite spots, where to eat a specific type of food in Orlando and new places to try out, such as Tapa Toro located on I-Drive 360, home of the Orlando Eye. So if you’re ready to explore new flavors, plates, and cuisine, let’s begin!
Tapa Toro: A Spanish Cuisine Experience
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to eat in Europe, maybe Spain? Picture this: small, flavorful tapa plates waking up your sense of smell, a paella-style pit with all kinds of seafoo d (or meats if you’re not a seafood lover!), and flamenco dancers dancing the night away…if you are looking for a scene that includes a journey through Spanish cuisine and culture, Tapa Toro is your place to go! Last Friday, I had the honor of visiting this restaurant and wow, it did not disappoint! The atmosphere screams Flamenco vibes starting the moment you walk in: Red, long curtains covered in black fringe cover the sides of the room as high-top tables with geometric-print stools are on each side of the entrance. Walk further in all the way to the back and you have small stage where flamenco dancers give a show every day from 7-10 pm (best believe, I will go back to see it!). The restaurant is decorated with frames of bullfighter memorabilia, giving it the perfect atmosphere of classic and contemporary Spanish culture.
With Summer in full swing, they have the perfect Summer Eats going through July 31st, including their Flamenco burger and Sangria flights.
Let’s start with the burger: El Flamenco is a mushroom-steak burger with ribeye, fresh oysters, cremini & portobello, piquillo pimento cheese, manchego mornay, charred padrón peers covered by brioche buns and potato-skin fries. This new creation was created for James Beard Foundation’s Blended Burger Project, a nationwide contest to make a burger by blending meat with finely chopped mushrooms to create a delicious, healthier & more sustainable burger.
I also tried one of their tapas: asparagus and egg “three ways”, which is jumbo asparagus covered in a perfectly curated poached egg, citrus hollandaise, endive and smoked pork belly. As someone that doesn’t mix fruits with veggies, this plate definitely turned me into a fan! I loved the sweetness of the citrus with the savor of the smoked pork belly and poached egg.
If that’s not enough, they have their famous Sangria flights in four flavors: Mango Passion Fruit, Rock Melon Basil, Hibiscus Apricot, and Blood Orange Watermelon. This four flavors scream summertime and are the perfect refreshment after a long, exhausting day in the summer heat. All of these items create the perfect blend of old world tradition with contemporary flare, making this an unforgettable eating experience! So what are you’re waiting for?! And what would be a Spanish-inspired restaurant without an outfit to complement the atmosphere? With dark blue being the color palette, I couldn’t have gone without wearing a signature red lip to make the outfit stand out and for this time, I wore a red rose on the side of my head to spice up the vibes! It is the perfect outfit for the perfect occasion, so why not be more glamorous from time to time?
