I hope you’re feeling refreshed from Memorial Day weekend and was able to enjoy it! Florida weather was all sorts of crazy, with thunderstorms and lots of rain the whole weekend but I was able to get some sun which I was v happy about! Now that we come back from reality, I needed a comeback, so what’s better than a power suit?

Lately I’ve been extremely obsessed with suits; there’s something so mesmerizing of the masculinity/femininity juxtaposition of a woman in a blazer and pants and with this tee? It was just the cherry on top for a great combination. This suit is actually one of my greatest treasure finds in the depths of thrift finds treasure; I went to Salvation Army just browsing when I stumbled upon this two-piece suit: the catch? It’s none other than Oscar de la Renta and it only costed $6 BOTH pieces (it was 50% additional discount Wednesdays). I couldn’t believe I had scored my first designer piece at such a STEAL. Every time I wear it I still can’t believe I’m wearing vintage Oscar, it’s a dream! And if you’ve never gone thrift store shopping, you have NO idea what you’re missing! Sure, someone else wore it and that person may or may not be alive (yes, I’ve thought this) but another woman’s trash can be another woman’s treasure, so NEVER underestimate the power of thrift-store shopping, you never know what you’ll find!

To top it all off, I recently bought this Old Navy t-shirt as a way of celebrating Mother’s Day but never got the chance to post it the day of, so here we are! I completely fell in love with the message and got me thinking of how truly fortunate and blessed I feel of being a woman. I mean let’s be real, being born a female is not easy: you’ll be taught to eat a certain way, sit a certain way, talk a certain way, dress a certain way and act a certain way; you’ll have a period which given, it is what gifts us the power of bearing children, but gives us (sometimes) excruciating pain, breast tenderness and extra pimples that no woman wants; you’ll have to put in double the work in whatever field we work in just because of our gender, work for equal pay and rights to men and truly hold many hats on our heads while still try to keep it together and have a fabulous life. I mean, just writing this makes me feel exhausted! (figuratively, of course). Nevertheless, all of these struggles and obstacles that all women face is what makes me even prouder of being a woman; not because of the challenges that all of us will have to face since the day we are born, but because all of us, somehow, will survive through it and make it work. I mean, God, what a wonderful thing to know!

That’s why it bothers me SO much when women do not help other women but are all about “empowerment”. Empowerment is not just writing the word on your Instagram bio, but talking about your issues/struggles with the hopes of other women assimilating to your situation and/or giving you words of encouragement to keep going. Empowerment is the definition of when a woman asks you for help for something as silly as asking “how do you edit your pictures?” to something more serious like being there for someone when they need it most. Given, it is our human nature to judge and/or compete with one another, but when we are fighting the same battles isn’t it worth celebrating another woman’s success?

So wear a power suit, celebrate other women’s successes and most importantly, never ever feel you are unable to accomplish something due to your gender. You got this!
