If I didn’t rely on fear

If I didn’t rely on fear.

Have you ever thought of what would happen if you didn’t let fear control your decisions? How much bolder, braver, freer you would feel?

I wish I’d ask myself this question every time fear clouded my thoughts. If this were the case, how different my decisions would look. I think with today’s events happening around the world, fear has become a recurrence, a foe, an uninvited guest. I think that I’ve become so accustomed in focusing on danger, the risks, and the what if’s, I would live inside four walls the rest of my life. As I grow older, I’ve slowly learned to not let fear get the best of me, to actually do things that I’m fearful of, to let go of any insecurities that hinder me from living in the moment. I think that life offers so many wonderful things that it wouldn’t be fair to ourselves to live in a safe bubble and never let go of fear. Something that I was very afraid of was re-launching this blog, especially writing about topics that aren’t as talked about amongst the blogosphere. I wasn’t sure if I was going to get the feedback I was expecting, if people were going to understand my vision, if I was going to be accepted into the blogging community. It’s important to know that most times, fear comes along with approval of our peers or society and this is something we have to change. Why do we need someone’s approval to follow our passions, wear what we want or do something completely unexpected? If there’s something I’ve learned along this blogging journey is to follow your heart. By letting go of the fear of what people think of you, you will start attracting peers that will understand what you do and follow you for your courage of stepping outside the norm. So how, you may ask, do you step out of a fearful life?

1. You have to love yourself first. This is the most important step before any other! You have to face your fears and insecurities, write them down and slowly get past them. I say this is the most important piece of advice because you have to be able to accept people’s disapproval of something you are doing to step out of your comfort zone. You’ll be freer and more open to do things outside your comfort zone.

2. Do something unexpected. I recently went indoor skydiving and if you know me, that doesn’t sound like the careful, responsible Gabby that does things after analyzing them (this is also the Virgo in me). But when the opportunity showed up, I knew I would have regretted not doing it because it is completely out of my comfort zone, yet I did and I don’t regret it at all!

Stepping out of fear opens up your mind and gives you a new perspective on things. When you start making decisions outside of your fears, you become braver, more courageous and secure about your choices. As cliché as it sounds, we have one life to live and you don’t want to look back at it and see how much you didn’t do due to fear.

What are you afraid of? Have you stepped out of your fear?

Stay Colorful,

Gabby
